This past week I attended class to become a certified Florida Stormwater, Erosion and Sediment Control Inspector. The class covered everything from on-site control of water runoff to the expectations of the inspector and contractor.

Storm water is in incredibly important topic. It can have huge impacts on the environment, and is ignored by most contractors, inspectors, and communities all together. However, when someone who does care comes along and finds the issues, the contractor is required to chase sediment runoff down streets and across rivers, costing weeks of time.

If storm water and sediment control were seriously considered at the start of the project, not only would this time be saved, but environmental damage would also be avoided.

I am looking forward to developing the Best Management Practices that can help save contractors’ time and money as well as help preserve the natural environment of the state of Florida.
