Last week I sat down to discuss Liens, what they mean, and what they can do to a job site. The topic is extremely relevant; construction is going to begin on my renovation project within the coming weeks. I am responsible for protecting the homeowners from paying double for the work completed by collecting the Lien Notices and requiring a Lien Release after each payment is completed.
It is incredibly important to protect the home owner from sending money to the contractor to pay for a sub-contractor, only for that money to be pocketed. When it comes time for the sub-contractor to be paid, they come to the property owner, not the contractor.
Protecting my client is my number one concern, and I can’t imagine a worse situation than having the project as a whole cost double due to failure to pay attention to the details.
